NABARD launches Farmer’s Club in Bandipora

BANDIPORA, MARCH 15: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) today launched Farmer’s Club in district Bandipora.

The District Development Manager NABARD Zubair Wasil on the occasion briefed the audience about Farmer’s Club.

He said the objective of establishing of Farmer’s Club is to encourage farmers to work with each other and with other groups to develop appropriate technologies and solutions to the problems of the farming sector, and to increase the income of the farmers so that a goal of achieving “Doubling of Farmer’s Income” will be achieved by 2022.

On the occasion, it was also informed that these clubs would coordinate with banks to ensure credit flow among its members and forge better bank borrower relationship, conduct extension programmes, liaison with input supplier to purchase bulk inputs on behalf of members and organize joint activities like value addition, processing and collective farm produce marketing for the benefits of members. The primary objective of the initiative is to ensure development in the rural areas through credit, technology transfer, awareness and capacity-building. The club will facilitate the transfer of latest agriculture techniques and help farmers to enhance the output of various crops.

NABARD provides need-based assistance for the formation and maintenance of each club for the first three years.

The clubs are expected to serve as the interface between farmers and specialists in various areas related to agriculture. They are to liaise with suppliers of agricultural inputs as fertilizers and seeds.

Among others Programme coordinator KVK Bandipora, representatives of Agricultural Department and financial institutions were present on the occasion.
