Salary of BMO Budgam employees vanishes in thin air

Budgam: Some officials in the Block Medical Office (BMO) Budgam have accused a senior assistant of fraudulently withdrawing their salaries and not crediting it into their respective accounts.

The employees alleged that the Senior Assistant (SA) under the eye of “influential persons” misappropriated more than Rs 50 lakh meant for the salary of employees.

“Our salaries were withdrawn but not credited into our accounts. Instead, we were told that the salaries couldn’t be drawn because of non-availability of budget,” alleged the employees.

They said that lakhs of rupees (salary of doctors and paramedics) was withdrawn fraudulently.

“Staff is without salary for last two months because officials gobbled the amount,” agitated officials said.

They also raised fingers towards Block Medical Officer (BMO) saying he is the drawing and disbursing officer in the department and without his signature, money can’t be withdrawn.

Besides salaries, aggrieved employees claimed that their dearness allowances and arrears were also embezzled.

In order to hush up the fraud, sources said that the accused along with alleged accomplices is trying to take loan from banks and other departments for reimbursement.

However, the main accused rejected the allegations and said, “These are just rumours. There was some misunderstanding in the calculations.”

When contacted, BMO said that salary of maximum employees was released and rejected the allegations of the employees.

The CMO Budgam, despite repeated calls and texts by this correspondent did not respond.

Demanding thorough investigation into the matter by vigilance department, health officials said that those who cheated them and breached the trust, must be booked.
