Govt committed to improve socio-economic status of farming community: Hanjura

JAMMU, MARCH 12: Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura today said that the State Government is committed to providing every possible support to improve socio-economic status of the farming community and mitigate the problems being faced by them.

The Minister said this during meetings with several deputations from various quarters including All Jammu and Kashmir Kissan Union here today.

During the meeting, the farmer unions gave their suggestions for various interventions that will redress the concerns of the community  including timely supply of seed and fertilizers to the farmers, uninterrupted power and water supply, issuing of fresh gun licenses after due verification, compensation to farmers of village Tanda against the continuous loss of crop due to industrial pollution from industries at Industrial growth centre Samba, exemption of stamp duty on agriculture loan including loan through KCC, the MoU between Government of Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab regarding Ranjeet Sagar Dam and compensation there-of stipulated for construction of irrigation canal up to Samba needs to be implemented,  waiving off Kissan Credit Loans, provision of subsidy on Agriculture Machinery and equipments and fertilizers and implementation of Crop Insurance Scheme.

Hanjura assured the deputations that the issues raised by them would be taken up with the concerned quarters for appropriate action.

He further assured that various agri-specific proposals put forth by the deputations will be taken up for consideration and will be incorporated in various schemes of the department.

He said the Chief Minister is taking keen interest in resolving the genuine issues of the farming community and Centre government is providing liberal funding to facilitate the Agriculture sector in the state. He said that the department is taking targeted measures for realizing the national goal of doubling the income of the farmers by the year 2022.

He asked the unions to work with the Government and educate farmers about various flagship programmes launched to facilitate farmers including Soil Health Card Scheme, Fasal Bhima Yojana (FBY) and Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY) besides educating farmers about the latest scientific techniques available to them.
