LC Panel reviews functioning of Home Deptt

JAMMU, FEBRUARY 27: The Department Related Standing Committee (DRSC-III) of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council met here today under the Chairmanship of MLC, Surinder Kumar Choudhary and discussed the functioning of the Home Department.

Legislators, Showkat Hussain Ganaie, Thakur Balbir Singh, S Charanjeet Singh, Ghulam Nabi Monga and Firdous Ahmed Tak participated in the meeting.

Principal Secretary Home, R K Goyal, Special DG Police HQ, V K Singh, ADG Security, Munir Khan, IGP Jammu, SD Singh, IGP Armed, Danesh Rana and other senior functionaries of Police Department atte3nded the meeting and gave detailed account of activities of various wings of Home Department to the Committee.

The Committee held detailed discussion on the functioning of various wings of the Police Department and pin-pointed certain gaps and called for attending those to further improve the functioning.  The Committee observed that in view of vast catchment area, there should be a separate Police Range for Ladakh region to ensure efficiency in the system. The committee also suggested for creation of a Women Police Station for Kargil.

The issues related to the encroachments on government land located around police and security installations at various places also figured prominently and Committee directed to take necessary steps to clear the same.

Modernization of Police Department, building of infrastructure, creation of more manpower, policy of transfer and posting of police personnel in Ladakh region, creation of more executive Police posts in Ladakh region were also discussed.

The Committee also asked the concerned authorities to ensure the arrangement of conducting a video conferencing in the meeting hall of Council Secretariat to have a direct interaction with the common masses in all over the state.

The Committee expressed concern over the absence of some senior officers of the department and directed the Principal Secretary Home, to ensure their participation in the next meetings.

Special Secretary Legislative Council, Mohammad Ashraf Wani and other officers of Council Secretariat were also present in the meeting.
