Kashmiri student goes missing from Odhisa

Srinagar, Feb 24: A Kashmiri student pursuing MBBS in AIIMS Medical College in Odhisa has gone missing from college hostel since February 09, police said here.

The missing student identified as Suhail Aijaz Kataria, son of Aijaz Ahmad Kataria, was pursuing MBBS since 2016 at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, (AIIMS) Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

His father Aijaz Kataria, according to a local news agency informed that his son called him on February 06, asking for depositing money in his account.

“I deposited money in his account on next day (Feb 07),” Kataria, a resident of Marsari Chowkibal, Kupwara said, adding “since then there is no contact with him. We waited till Feb 20, thinking that he might call and as he might be busy with studies.”

However, he said when there was no contact, the family decided to visit Bhubaneswar, Odisha  to know about his wellbeing.

“As I reached here (Odhisa) I visited his room and did not find him. I called his friend who informed me that he has not seen him from Feb 09,” Kataria said, adding “later I met the college authorities who also informed me that they have lodged a missing report with the local police station.”

The news agency reported that it called the concerned police station in Bhubaneswar, and a police officer who picked the phone said that a missing report has been filed at the instance of college authorities on Feb 18.

“In this regard, we subsequently registered an FIR (21/2018) and have started investigations to trace out the missing student,” they said.

Police spokesman here said that SSP Kupwara took-up the matter with DCP of Bhubaneswar Police and requested for ascertaining the whereabouts of the missing boy.

“The DCP Bhubaneswar has assured early action into the matter,” spokesman said, adding that SSP Kupwara  also spoke to the father of the missing boy who is presently at Bhubaneswar and assured all possible help from J&K Police in locating the missing boy.

The concerned local police has also seized two hand-written notes from the hostel room of the missing boy.

“The Bhubaneswar Police along with Kashmir Police is making concerted efforts in ascertaining the whereabouts of the missing boy. The District Police Kupwara is in continuous contact with both Bhubaneswar Police and father of the missing boy to trace him,” spokesman informed, adding that senior police officers of state are also in touch with their counterparts in Odisha in this regard.
