Chief Justice attends inaugural event for ‘Jammu Tax Conference 2018’

JAMMU, FEBRUARY 24 – Chief Justice Jammu and Kashmir High Court Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed today attended the inaugural event for Jammu Tax Conference 2018 organized by All India Federation of Tax Practitioners North Zone (AIFTP – NZ) and Tax Bar Association (TBA) Jammu here.

The objective of the conference is to discuss the “Role of Tax Professionals and Practitioners” into direct and indirect taxes after the role and implementation of new tax reform in India – GST (Goods and Services Tax).

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Justice laid emphasis on the role of Tax Professionals in the new era of Tax Reforms in the country. He stressed on the role and working of advocates in the society to help people navigate the constantly evolving taxation systems.

“The development of a healthy Tax Bar in Jammu and holding of Tax Conference here indicates that the city is doing well financially,” the Chief Justice said, adding that it is an indication that Jammu is developing as a commercial hub. He expressed hope that similar events will also be held in Srinagar to develop Tax Bar in both capital cities.

He also asked the senior and experienced professionals in the field to nurture youngsters to come into the field of Taxation Law.

President TBA Jammu Advocate Sunil Sharma, while addressing the participants, said that it is for the first time that national level conference on role of Tax Professionals has been held in Jammu.

He said that the conference would definitely help Tax Professionals in Jammu to gain necessary exposure, besides getting an opportunity to learn from experience of seniors for across the nation.

As part of the conference, two sessions were held; first session was presided over by Chairperson Advocate Prem Lata Bansal – Senior Advocate Delhi High Court. She emphasized on the technical issues and solution in front of professionals in the new era of technology.

The panel discussions were also held on certain topics like current amendments as proposed by Finance Bill 2018, Reopening & Reassessment and Penalties Prosecution under Income Tax Act 1961. The panelists for this discussion included AK Srivastava – FCA Delhi, Arvind Shukla – Advocate from Varanasi, VP Gupta – Advocate from Delhi.

Second session of the conference held panel discussion on the role of Tax Consultants in the new era of GST (Goods and Services Tax). Discussions were also held on the topic ITC – Restrictions including cautions and E-way Bills. Nitika Badheka, Advocate from Mumbai was the chairperson of the said session and the panelists included DK Gandhi – Advocate from Ghaziabad, Mukul Gupta – Advocate from Ghaziabad, Pankaj Ghiya – Advocate from Jaipur.

AIFTP (NZ) National President Ganesh Purohit, Secretary General Pankaj Ghiya, Tax Bar Association President Adv. Sunil Sharma, Additional Commissioner Income Tax Jammu SK Sharma, Additional Commissioner (Admin) Commercial Taxes Department Jammu Anu Malhotra, Assistant Commissioner Income Tax Jammu Ruveda Salam & Manzoor Ahmed Shah besides elected executive body and office bearers of AIFTP (NZ) & TBA Jammu were present for the conference.

The proceedings of the conference were presided over by Advocates – Sachin Sharma and Gagan Aneja.
