2 drug peddlers arrested in Kulgam

Srinagar: Police have arrested two drug peddlers in Kulgam and recovered contraband/psychotropic substances from their possession, officials informed Tuesday.  

They said a police party during patrolling at Danew Bogund intercepted a suspicious person and recovered 1.7 grams of cannabis-like contraband substance from his possession. He has been identified as Mohammad Yousuf Khanday, son of Abdul Ahad Khanday, resident of Danew Bogund.

At a checkpoint at Peerbal, police intercepted a vehicle (JK02AU-0653) driven by Kamran Gul Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat of Hardu Akad Mattan, Anantnag. During checking, police recovered 11Kgs of poppy straw and 12 bottles of codeine phosphate from his possession.

Both the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody, while cases under relevant sections of law have been registered and further investigations initiated, police said.
