Night sports activities return in Kashmir

SRINAGAR: The sports activities under different verticals were held in various playfields and indoor sports complexes in J&K.

A Badminton event was held in Sheri Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex, Srinagar under My Youth My Pride in which more than 40 players including both boys and girls participated. The girl’s single’s title was bagged by Sadia Khaki while Faiza ended up as the runner-up and in the boy’s category, Shahnawaz won the title while Hadi settled for the runner-up title.

Meanwhile, Night Football activities resumed in Bakshi Stadium. The special activities in this segment are aimed at providing extended time to the players to hone their skills, said Dr Zaffar Iqbal CAO Sports Council, adding that Sports Council under the special activities segments besides mass awareness about the ill effects of drugs is also acquainting the public with the G-20 summit being hosted in J&K.

Late in the evening today, various sports activities and competitions were underway in Gindun Sports Complex in the disciplines of Basket Ball in which Khelo India Girls and Boys team was pitted against Hoopstar Girls Club and Warriors Boys Club respectively while Kabaddi Academy was playing against Police Kabbadi Teams. In other events of Football and Handball.

Syed Tajdeen was playing against J&K Bank and Al-Murad Handball Club was competing with J&K Police handball teams. All the matches were in progress under floodlights when the report was being filed.

An athletic and cycling event for school kids under fourteen years of age was also held in Bakshi Stadium today in which more than a hundred school kids participated. The kids were thrilled to be part of the event.

In her message to youth, Secretary Sports Council Nuzhat Gull reiterated that she along with her team is always there to support players who are aspiring to make it big in the sports. She said that our sports academies in both the divisions are doing a commendable job when it comes to training the young tricks of their respective sports and that all the programmes including feedback mechanisms shall be made online soon.

Nuzhat Gull said that automation of the Sports Council is under process and all the information relating to games, scrutiny of certificates, etc shall be made online for the ease of players and the public.

Referring to the Sports Club, she appealed to the youth to avail the facility which houses Billiards, Chess Carrom, and Table Tennis besides a Library with a functional canteen that offers food at subsidised rates.

Meanwhile, Sports Officer Kashmir Nuzhat Farooq refuted the claims made in a video after the conclusion of a cricket match in Bakshi Stadium. She said that the video has been edited to suit the claims of vested interests and is far from the truth.

The Sports Officer Kashmir requested the general public to report any incident that falls within her domain and assured of a timely redressal.
