Six drug peddlers arrested with contraband substances

Srinagar: Police have arrested six drug-peddlers in Baramulla and Handwara and recovered contraband substances from their possession, officials informed Friday.

They said at Dhobiwan Kunzer (Baramulla) police recovered 225 grams of cannabis-like substance from the possession of Bilal Ahmad Khanday, son of Bashir Ahmad Khanday of Utikoo, and Sahil Ahmad Lone, son of Riyaz Ahmad Lone of Ferozpora Tangmarg. They have been arrested and shifted to a police station, police spokesman said.

In Handwara four drug-peddlers including a juvenile were arrested at New Bus Stand. They have been identified as Aijaz Ahmad Dar, son of Mohammad Shafi of Braripora; Moomin Masood Qureshi, son of Masood ul Hussain Qureshi of Zargar Mohalla Handwara; Imtiyaz Ahmad Bhat, son of Nazir Ahmad of Herpora Handwara, and a juvenile (name withheld). During their search, 338 grams of cannabis was recovered from their possession.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated, police spokesman said.
