Dr Farooq expresses concern over plight of people in Marwah sub-division
Reiterates his demand for construction of all-weather tunnel for the region
Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President and Member of the Parliament from Srinagar Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday asked the government to take cognizance of problems faced by people in remote areas of Marwah sub-division in the Chenab region.
Inviting the attention of the government over the vulnerable plight of people in the remote areas of Chenab valley particularly the Marwah, Dr. Farooq said that the area continues to remain snowbound and inaccessible until now. “The area lacks roads and other public infrastructure including health care centres. The resumption of surface connectivity makes the situation worse as the locals cannot fetch their patients to nearby hospitals in Doda, Kishtwar, and Jammu. We are living in darkness and lacking basic facilities like electricity, health infrastructure, telecommunication, and internet.”
“Our people there have to walk for days altogether to reach the district headquarters to have their ration and other supplies replenished. Our mothers and sisters there particularly face the brunt. Students and job aspirants also continue to remain at the receiving end due to the prevailing administrative neglect,” he said.
The party President called for reviewing the supply and stock position of food grains, medicines, and other essentials in the Subdivision. He also sought the resumption of connectivity in the region on a priority basis, asking the concerned authorities to work with a sense of urgency.
Seeking an all-weather connectivity for the subdivision, he said, “An all-weather tunnel from Marwa to Chatroo would connect it to Kishtwar directly and alleviate the sufferings of the local populace. The route connecting the remote area with Kishtwar is fraught with dangers and has devoured many lives.”
“It has been a long pending demand of locals to have an all-weather tunnel for the region. I hope the administration will rise to the expectations of people and work in the direction of mitigating their woes,” he added.
