7 drug-peddlers arrested in Baramulla

Srinagar: Police in Baramulla have arrested seven drug peddlers including a woman and recovered contraband substances and cash from their possession, officials informed Tuesday.

They said at Sheeri Market, three drug-peddlers identified as Zubair Ahmad Pandith, son of Mohammad Hayat Pandith of Gantamulla Payeen; Waheed Bashir Lone, son of Bashir Ahmad Lone and Mushtaq Ahmad Lone, son of Ali Mohammad Lone, both residents of Fatehgarh Sheeri, were arrested after 63 grams of brown sugar was recovered from their possession.

At Boniyar, police intercepted a vehicle (JK05L-3829) and recovered 60 grams of heroin and cash of ₹50,000 (proceeds of narcotic crime) from the four persons travelling in it. All four — Ikhlaq Mir, son of Ahmad Mir, Kabir Ahmad Awan, son of Muzaffar Ahmad, both residents of Daragutliyan; Abdul Qayoom Khan, son of Sarfaraz Ahmad of Bela Salamabad, and Muneeba Younis, daughter of Mohammad Younis Sudan of Uranbowa, were arrested, and the vehicle seized.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and investigations have been initiated, police said.
