All efforts being made to bring change in the lives of artisans, weavers: H&H Deptt

ANANTNAG: A daylong Exhibition cum Awareness Camp for the Cooperatives of Anantnag district was today organised by the Handicrafts and Handloom (H&H) Department Anantnag with the theme ‘Encouraging Cooperatives towards Self-reliance’ at Kokernag here.

A large number of members of Cooperative societies and aspiring societies of the district participated in the event.

The Camp was inaugurated by the Joint Registrar INDUSCOS wing of the Directorate of Handicrafts & Handloom Kashmir, Mirza Shahid Ali in presence of SDM Kokernag, Er. Sarib Sahran and Assistant Director Handicrafts and Handloom Anantnag, Mohamamad Yaseen Bhat.

BMO Kokernag, Asstt. Registrar, INDUSCOS Handicrafts & Handloom Anantnag, and other officers and officials of various line deptts and Banks were also present on the occasion.

Speaking at the event, Mirza Shahid Ali, Dy. Director Handicrafts & Handloom Kashmir, who is also Joint Registrar, INDUSCOS Kashmir as well encouraged the Cooperative Societies/ SHGs to adopt this heritage craft to earn their livelihood. He emphasized for adopting this heritage trade and carrying forward the legacy to the next generation.

He said that all efforts are being put in to rejuvenate and revive Kashmir Handicrafts, thereby bringing visible change in the lives of Artisans and Weavers. “Eight basic services of the department have been integrated into the JK Single Window System and thus online services are also available on the portal,” he pointed out.

Earlier, AD Handicrafts & Handloom Anantnag gave a brief presentation on the formation of Cooperatives and the benefits provided to them by the department. He said that the department has put in a robust mechanism for providing benefits to the artisans/cooperatives at the grassroots level.

Meanwhile, other guest speakers delivered lectures on the theme and sensitized the participants about various flagship programmes and schemes available in the department, with special reference to Cooperatives.

Besides, the rich ancestral history of handicrafts and handloom in social and economic aspects were also highlighted.

Various Cooperative societies were presented certificates of Appreciation by the chief guest for their outstanding performance during the current financial year.
