DC Sgr chairs meeting of DTF on Measles-Rubella Elimination

SRINAGAR: A meeting of the District Task Force (DTF) on Measles & Rubella Elimination was today held under the Chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad here at the Conference Hall of DC Office Complex, in order to further pace up the progress towards Measles-Rubella Elimination in the District.

Programme Officer, ICDS, Zeenat Ara, Chief Medical Officer, Srinagar Dr Jameel, Chief Education Officer, Mohammad Shabir, Deputy CMO, Dr Nighat, Deputy CEO, Anjum Raja, all Block and Zonal Medical Officers, District Monitoring & Evaluation Officer and other concerned were present in the meeting.

During the meeting, threadbare deliberations were held with regard to the implementation of a road map formulated by the Government for Measles, Rubella Elimination from the Country by 2023. An Action Plan for achieving strategic objectives for Measles & Rubella Elimination also came under discussion.

On the occasion, the DC urged upon the senior Health functionaries of the District to take all possible measures with focused attention in unison with ICDS and Education Departments to identify the dropout cases in District besides the immunization process for Measles, Rubella Elimination in the District.

The DC further stressed on better management of the Universal Immunization programme and Surveillance activities to achieve the target in the stipulated time. He urged the Officers to adopt multipronged interventions to identify the target at the right time to arrest the disease at the right time.

With regard to reporting measles cases in adults, the DC asked the Officers to examine the matter seriously to prevent the spread of the disease in the District.

The DC also highlighted the importance of acquiring complete knowledge about the preventive measures of Measles-Rubella disease, and asked the officers to identify the target groups, conduct surveys, and go ahead with concrete plans to achieve the results as set by the Government.

He further asked them to put in a committed effort in order to achieve the objective of the campaign i.e to rapidly build up immunity for both Measles and Rubella diseases and ensure that all the children should receive the MR vaccine during the campaign.

Earlier, through a PowerPoint presentation, the Deputy CMO gave a detailed overview of the present status and progress achieved in the District under the Measles-Rubella Elimination programme.

 With regard to the progress achieved in Immunization coverage under NFHS 5, the DC was informed that over 95 percent immunization (BCG, MCV-1, and MCV-2) target has been achieved so far in Srinagar District.

Similarly, DC was apprised that the 104 percent target has been achieved under MCV-1 and MCV-2 Coverage in all Medical Blocks of Srinagar District including Batamallo, Hazratbal, Khanyar, S R Gunj, Zadibal during 2nd quarter of the year 2023.

Likewise, under MR Surveillance indicators Srinagar has achieved an NMNR discard rate of 8 which is satisfactory for Measles-Rubella Elimination in the District.
