6 drug-peddlers arrested across Kashmir

Srinagar: Police on Monday said it has arrested six drug-peddlers in Pulwama and Baramulla, and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

A police party intercepted a suspicious person — Inayat Javid, son of Javaid Ahmed Ganie of Chatapora, — at a checkpoint established at Gangoo Pulwama and recovered 1.5 kg of ‘bhang patri’ from his possession. He has been arrested, police said in a statement.

It said during a raid on a residential house of Shakeel Ahmad Wani, son of Gulam Ahmad Wani at Gosoo Pulwama, 800 gms of ‘charas powder’ (cannabis) was recovered. Wani has been arrested, police said.

In Baramulla, during routine checking at Sumbal-Singhpora road, police intercepted a car (UP65BE-9224) and recovered 3 kgs of poppy straw, 700 grams of charas powder, and 12 grams of heroin-like substance from it, police said.

Four people traveling in the vehicle — Mohammad Maqbool Bhat alias Raja, son of Ghulam Mustafa; Zulfikar Ali Parray, son of Mohammad Akbar, and Sher Ali Parray, son of Ghulam Mohammad, all residents of Gund Hassi Bhat, Srinagar, and Parvaiz Ahmad Najar, son of Ghulam Hassan Najar of Trihgam Sumbal, were arrested, police said.
