UAPA court sentences Bijbehara man on different counts of terrorism

Srinagar: A UAPA court in Srinagar has convicted a Hizbul Mujahideen commander on different counts of terrorism and sentenced to imprisonment. 

Quoting an official, local news agency KNO reported that Amir Nabi Wagay, son of Ghulam Nabi Wagay of Goriwan Bijbehara of Anantnag district was convicted by UAPA Court in Srinagar on December 27, 2022 and sentenced to six years of imprisonment under section 20 of UAPA for being an active member of Hizbul Mujahideen, a banned outfit; another six years under section 7/25 Indian Arms Act for possession of illegally acquired firearms and ammunition, and three years under section 13 UAPA for indulging in unlawful activities, especially promoting separatism and disrupting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India.

Amir Wagay, also known by the code name Abu Qasim, was operating as the District Commander of Hizbul Mujahideen in Anantnag area, the official said. 

Considered to be a close associate of Burhan Wani, Amir Wagay was nabbed by a team of Counter-Intelligence Kashmir, now operating as SIA, from SKIMS Soura on May 31, 2017, he said.
