Suicide attempt thwarted in Sopore

Baramulla: Three days after a young girl committed suicide by jumping into the River Jehlum in Sopore, a similar attempt by a young boy from Naidkhai Sopore was foiled by the locals on Thursday evening.

While the incidence of suicides is alarming high across Kashmir, police records for Baramulla district (taken as a case study here) show that while in the year 2021, some 57 suicides were recorded in the district, this year the figure has already crossed 98. In fact, six suicide attempts were reported in the district in the last 10 days alone.

Today evening a 20-year-old boy was held by locals as he was trying to jump into the river from a bridge in Sopore, reports said.
