J&K records 26 new cases of COVID-19

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir recorded 26 fresh Covid cases on Thursday that took the infection tally to 4,79,018, officials said.

Of the new cases, three were reported from the Jammu division and the rest from the Kashmir valley, they said.

In Kashmir division, Srinagar reported 13 cases, Ganderbal reported five cases, Budgam four, and Bandipora reported one fresh case.

In Jammu division, Jammu district reported two cases and Samba reported one case while no other district reported any fresh cases today.

The death toll stands at 4,785. No Covid-related fatality was reported from the Union Territory, officials said.

Currently there are 162 active cases — 118 in Kashmir and 44 in Jammu division —  while the number of recoveries has reached 4,74,071, the officials said. This also includes 25 more COVID-19 patients who were discharged from various hospitals, including 19 from Jammu division and six from Kashmir in the last 24 hours after their recuperation.

The viral infection has so far claimed 4785 lives in J&K. While there have been 2,433 virus-related deaths in Kashmir, 2352 persons have died in Jammu division.

Officials said 6,421 doses of COVID vaccines were administered in the last 24 hours, bringing the cumulative number of doses administered across Jammu and Kashmir till date to 2,45,52,205.

Active Covid cases in country rise to 46,342

With 5,443 new coronavirus infections being reported in a day, India’s total tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 4,45,53,042, while the active cases climbed to 46,342, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Thursday.

The death toll climbed to 5,28,429 with 26 fatalities which includes 12 deaths reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The active cases comprise 0.10 percent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate increased to 98.71 percent, the ministry said.

An increase of 126 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 1.61 percent and the weekly positivity rate at 1.73 percent, according to the ministry.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,39,78,271, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.19 percent.

According to the ministry, 217.11 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide vaccination drive

The 14 fatalities reported in the last 24 hours include five from Maharashtra and one each from Chhattisgarh, Haryana and Kerala.
