Shameem Firdous appeals to women to come forward, shoulder responsibilities

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Women’s wing President Shameema Firdous on Saturday asked the women functionaries to shoulder critical responsibilities in the party’s fight for the protection of J&K’s unique cultural and political identity.
This she, according to the NC spokesperson, said while addressing a one-day convention of the party’s women’s wing at Dakbanglow Baramulla. Among others Party’s North Zone President Javed Dar, District President Baramulla Dr Sajad Shafi Uri, Provincial President Women’s wing Er. Sabiya Qadri, Ghulam Hassan Rahi, Adv Shahid, Women’s wing District President Adv. Neelofar, were also present on the occasion.
The meeting was organised by Adv. Neelofar Masood.
Addressing the functionaries, Shameema said that the region is at a critical juncture of history which requires women to come forward to shoulder critical responsibilities in the fight for the protection of its unique identity, history, and culture. “There is no bigger calling than serving the party and the society. We are caught in a vortex of shenanigans and misfortunes. The new chapter that unfolded on the 5th of August 2019 has been marked by the liquidation of our jobs, land rights, and our democratic rights. Our people have experienced the unfortunate turn of events,” she said.
She further said that women have a larger role to play in politics. “NC has long ago recognized women’s voices and involved them in decision-making at all levels. There are a lot more women leaders in our party now. We need women’s touch to political decisions to have resultant policies more attuned to the needs of our daughters, mothers, and sisters in urban as well as rural areas,” she said adding, “It is elevating to see educated women join us in rows from different walks of life. I hope that the new joining will help us actualise the progressive vision of Madre Meharban.”
In his address, North Zone president Javed Dar said, “Only way to protect J&K’s identity is to first register, and cast your vote in huge numbers imploring the workers to educate the general public on this. The inclusion of outside voters will have far-reaching implications on the region in terms of demographic change and complete disenfranchisement of the local populace irrespective of their caste, creed, and religion. Thus it is imperative for us to come out in huge numbers and exercise our democratic rights as and when elections are announced. There is no scope for complacency this time. Decisions we take this time will affect our future generations.”
Praising the role of Madre Meharban, Sabiya Qadri said that the efforts of Madre Meharban bore anticipated results in improving the self-confidence, voice, and political standing of women across J&K. “We have to take the mission envisioned by her to its logical conclusion by ensuring women’s participation in politics to its fullest,” she added.
