Over 2000 pints collected from four camps across Kashmir

Srinagar: Thousands of people on Saturday turned up at the blood donation camps organized by the globally acclaimed social justice organization ‘Who is Hussain’ in the three districts of Kashmir Valley, as part of the organization’s worldwide blood donation drive on Saturday.

Early in the morning, people in large numbers visited Imambargahs, where the blood donation camps were organized by the Kashmir chapter of ‘Who Is Hussain’.

In Srinagar city, blood donation camps were established at Imambargah Zadibal and Imambargah Ayatullah Yousuf, Bemina. Two similar camps were set up at Markazi Imambargah Budgam and Imambargah Gamdoo in Bandipora.

A battery of doctors and paramedics were also roped in by the NGO for a smooth blood donation drive.

Each camp had nearly a dozen beds and were looked after by a group of five well-experienced paramedics, besides the volunteers of WhoIsHussain. Separate arrangements were also made for female donors at the four locations in the Valley.

“There was an overwhelming response to the blood donation camp organised at the Imambada Zadibal. We had deployed our staff and provided logistics for the smooth conduct of the donation drive,” Rubeena Aziz, Zonal Medical Officer (ZMO) Zadibal said.

She said that her staff facilitated non-communicable diseases (NCD) screening for the people who came to the venue to donate blood.

“We collected around 2000 pints of blood from the four specified locations in Kashmir, while 5000 more people registered themselves at the camps. People in large numbers turned up to donate blood,” Abrar Ali, one of the organisers said.

The organisers, he said, had a tough time dealing with the donors who came out in large numbers at the designated collection points.

The non-profit organization has chapters in 109 cities worldwide including Srinagar where around 25 volunteers have been working in order to aware people of Prophet Muhammad’s grandson Hussain ibn Ali.

The blood donation camp was part of the global campaign ‘Be a global blood hero’ held across several countries. The aim of the campaign was to set a world record-breaking challenge of collecting 50,000 units of blood in one calendar day.

‘Salute72 Blood Donors’ Group, ‘Helping Hands blood’, and ‘Anjuman Blood Donors’, Budgam, also collaborated with WhoIsHussain in this global event.
