Police arrest 02 in Handwara with restricted medicinal herbs

Srinagar: Cracking down on persons involved in illegal trade of endangered medicinal herbs, police in Handwara have arrested two accused persons and recovered endangered medicinal herbs from their possession.

An official spokesman said that a police party of Border Police Post Bungus during patrolling at Dhani Bhak Bungus intercepted two persons in a suspicious manner who tried to flee away from the spot but were apprehended tactfully.

“Both the persons identified as Aamir Hussain Sheikh son of Khak Hussain Sheikh, Sadiq Ahmad Khandil son of Mohd Ashraf Khandil both residents of New Gabra Kernah were travelling with horses laden with bags. During search of the bags, around 2 kgs of endangered medicinal herbs (Saussurea Costus) was recovered from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody,” the spokesman said.

He said a case vide FIR No.58/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Qalamabad and investigation has been initiated.
