823 new COVID cases, 2 fatalities reported in J&K

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir registered 823 fresh COVID-9 cases on Friday, taking the cumulative infection tally in the union territory to 4,68,245, officials said here.

Two fresh deaths – one each in Kashmir and Jammu regions — were also reported due to the Coronavirus, they said.

While 633 fresh cases were reported from Kashmir valley, 190 cases were reported from Jammu division, the officials said. 

Providing district-wise break-up of today’s positives cases, officials said in Kashmir, Srinagar district recorded 212 cases, Baramulla reported 159 cases, Budgam 83 cases, Anantnag reported 48 cases, Kupwara reported 41 cases, Bandipora reported 37 cases, Kulgam reported 31 cases, Pulwama reported 12 cases, Ganderbal reported nine cases, while Shopian reported one fresh case today.

Similarly in Jammu division, Jammu district reported 118 cases, Kishtwar 17, Ramban 12, Doda 11, Rajouri and Sanba reported eight cases each, Poonch seven, Kathua six, Udhampur three and Reasi reported no fresh cases.

The death toll due to the virus rose to 4,776 as two fresh deaths were reported from the union territory, the officials said. So far the disease has claimed 2,430 lives in Kashmir Valley while 2,346 persons have succumbed to the infection in Jammu division.

Currently there are 5,133 active cases of the disease in the union territory – 3,707 in Kashmir division and 1,426 in Jammu division, while the number of recoveries has reached 4,58,336, the officials said, adding this also includes 679 patients  — 433 from Kashmir division and 246 from Kashmir — who were discharged from various hospitals in the last 24 hours after their recuperation. 

The officials 51 confirmed cases of mucormycosis (black fungus) have been recorded in J&K so far.

 

 

India records 70 new Covid fatalities

New Delhi, Aug 05 (PTI) With 20,551 new coronavirus infections being reported in a day, India’s tally of COVID-19 cases has risen to 4,41,07,588, while the active cases have declined to 1,35,364, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday.

The death toll has climbed to 5,26,600 with 70 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The active cases comprise 0.31 percent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.50 percent, the ministry said.

A decrease of 1,114 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours. 

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 5.14 percent and the weekly positivity rate at 4.64 percent, according to the ministry.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,34,45,624, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.19 percent. 

According to the ministry, 205.59 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide vaccination drive. 

The 70 new fatalities include seven from Maharashtra, four each from Delhi and West Bengal, three each from Karnataka and Punjab, two each from Manipur, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tripura and Uttar Pradesh and one each from Assam, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim and Uttarakhand.

Additionally, 26 deaths have been reconciled by Kerala as per guidelines of the Indian Council of Medical Research.
