CHINAR WOMEN’S CRICKET LEAGUE 2022: Anantnag XI beat Kulgam Sports in final

Srinagar: Chinar Women’s Cricket League-2022 (3rd Edition) was organised by the Indian Army at Dooru, Anantnag from July 23 to July 30, 2022 with approval from JKCA.

“One of the most sought for sports event of Kashmir Valley ‘Chinar Women’s Cricket League 2022’ concluded with scintillating performances from both the finalist teams,” said PRO (Defence), Srinagar.

“A total of Twelve Women’s Cricket teams from districts of North & South Kashmir namely Ganderbal, Budgam, Baramulla, Kupwara, Kulgam, Pulwama and Anantnag had participated in this league. The final match was played between Anantnag XI and Kulgam Sports. An exciting performance by both teams was put up in the match. Anantnag XI won the toss and opted to bowl first. Kulgam scored 77/8 runs in 15 overs. Anantnag XI chased the target in 14 overs and lifted the coveted CHINAR WOMEN’S CRICKET TROPHY for the Year 2022,” the PRO said.

“Prominent personalities from Anantnag civil administration graced the occasion. Hilal Ahmad Shah, President Municipal Council Anantnag, Mohd Iqbal Ahanger, President Municipal Corporation Dooru-Verinag and Brig AS Pundir Commander, 2 Sector Rashtriya Rifles, Col Manpreet Singh, SM, CO 19 RR (SIKH LI) and other army officers witnessed the final match and closing ceremony in which each participating team was presented with a Cricket Kit by the Indian Army to motivate these young girls to pursue their passion of Cricket,” he said.

“Secretary Sports Council Jammu and Kashmir Nuzhat Gul had also witnessed the tournament and appreciated the efforts done by the Indian Army. She also praised the Josh of the girls who despite all odds had come forward and participated in the tournament. She also motivated youth to come forward and participate in such tournaments as it will help them to channelize their energies in positive direction and will also help them to stay away from Drugs,” the PRO said.

“Brig Ajay Singh Pundir addressed the girls and said that Army will keep conducting such events to provide a good platform in sports for the young talent of the Kashmir Valley. Such events will be organised in future also to motivate young boys and girls to come forth and exhibit their talent to the world,” he added.
