DC Srinagar appeals people to follow COVID-related SOPs
Inaugurates Aadhaar Seva Kendra in city centre
Srinagar: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Assad Friday admitted that there has been increase in the number of COVID-19 positive cases in Srinagar and other parts of the Valley while stressing that adherence to COVID-appropriate behavior is the only weapon to combat the pandemic.
He also said the number of positive cases reported for the last one week is highest in the last two or three months, but was quick to add that the probability of a 4th wave was nominal.
“Prima facie it seems all the positive cases are local contacts, the number of positive cases reported for the last one week is highest in the last two months. Yes there is some spike in positive cases but the probability of a 4th wave is nominal at the moment,” Assad told reporters on the sidelines of the inaugural function of Adhar Seva Kendra here at the city centre.
He appealed to the people to wear face masks, maintain social distance and avoid gatherings so as to prevent the virus from spreading further.
“Everyone knows what strategy needs to be adopted to avoid contracting coronavirus infection; so I appeal to people to wear masks, avoid crowded gatherings and maintain social distance,” he added.
Asad was speaking at the inaugural of the Aadhaar Seva Kendra (ASK) at Ground Floor, NB House, Commercial Complex, Exchange Road, Lal Chowk, Srinagar.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has set up this ‘one stop destination’ for Aadhaar services for the people, an official press release said.
The facility which commenced operations at Srinagar today was inaugurated by Deputy Director General (UIDAI), Regional Office Chandigarh, Bhawna, Garg in the presence of Secretary Government Information Technology Department Prerna Puri and Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad.
After inaugurating the Aadhaar Seva Kendra, DDG, UIDAI informed that ASK will offer dedicated Aadhaar enrolment and update services viz demographic and biometric including the download and print Aadhaar services to residents in a state-of-the-art environment.
She also informed that on-line appointment is also available for availing services for all seven days in a week from 9:30 AM to 5.30 PM (barring public holidays).
She said that the ASK has the capacity to serve 500 persons in a day. She also informed that new Aadhaar enrolment and Mandatory Bio-Metric (MBU) for children attaining the age of 5 and 15 years is free of cost. However, the people need to pay a nominal charge of Rs 50 for updating details like mobile number, address etc. and Rs 100 for Bio-Metric Updates including photograph.
Secretary Information Technology said that the people of Srinagar and adjoining areas shall avail Aadhaar services in a hassle-free and convenient manner. She added that a similar ASK facility has also been made operational in Jammu.
The Deputy Commissioner Srinagar said that this Centre will make Aadhaar related services for residents easy. He hoped that, now people can update their Aadhaar and also get enrolled for Aadhaar Card at the centre. He urged the uncovered population of Srinagar to avail the facility to get Aadhaar Cards which is a prerequisite document for availing benefits of different government sponsored welfare and social security schemes.
He said having an Aadhaar card in the pocket guarantees the entitlements and enjoyment of the benefits of various centrally sponsored schemes.
