2 migrant labourers injured in Shopian grenade attack

Srinagar: Three soldiers and a civilian were injured in an ongoing encounter that broke out between terrorists and security forces at Rishipora village of Verinag area in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, police said on Friday.

Police said that a joint team of police, Army and CRPF after receiving information about the presence of terrorists launched search operation in the area.

“As the joint team of forces intensified searches towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired upon the party, which was retaliated, thus triggering an encounter,” said police, adding, in the initial exchange of fire a soldier and a civilian have received injuries.

Police said that two more soldiers were injured later while as the operation was underway in the area.

The injured civilian as Mukhtar Ahmad Malik, son of Ghulam Mohidin Malik.

Meanwhile, unidentified terrorists lobbed a grenade in Aglar area of Shopian Friday evening injuring two migrant labourers, police said.

Police sources said that terrorists hurled a grenade on a tin shed where some migrant labourers were staying.

The grenade exploded injuring two labourers, sources said.
