3 drown to death in Shopian, Udhampur

Srinagar: A three-year-old boy drowned to death on Friday in a stream at Reban area of Zainapora in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Quoting officials, news agency KNO reported the minor boy slipped and subsequently drowned in the stream at Khargund Chak-e-Reban in Zainapora area.

Locals launched the rescue operation and evacuated him to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

The deceased boy has been identified as Azaan Imtiyaz, son of Imtiyaz Ahmad Ganaie of Khargund Chak-e-Reban.

Two teenage girls also drowned while bathing in a river in Udhampur district, officials said on Friday.

The deceased Sushma Devi (14) and Pooja Devi (15) went to the river while returning from school in the Kagote area on Thursday, they said.

The girls slipped into the deeper side of the river and eventually drowned. Their bodies were recovered by the villagers, the officials said.
