Srinagar: CPI (M) leader Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami on Tuesday said that Anganwadi workers and helpers working under the ICDS scheme in Jammu and Kashmir are without wages for the past several months.

In a statement issued here, Tarigami said: “These scheme workers have been working tirelessly as most of the government schemes are implemented through them. Even during the fight against COVID19 pandemic, they have been at the forefront. These employees have to feed their families, but despite working hard, they are not paid their wages on time.”

“The central share of their wages for several months is yet to be released. The administrative apathy towards their genuine issues is against justice as they are being denied social security benefits including promotion, gratuity, pension, provident fund and medical facilities etc,” he said.

“I have taken up the issue with the Commissioner/Secretary Social Welfare Department who assured that the matter would be looked into and their wages would be released shortly,” he added.
