Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Wednesday condemned the acid attack on a 24-year-old girl in Hawal area of Srinagar, calling it most uncivilized and heartless of crimes, which do not deserve any clemency.

In a Joint statement, the Party’s Womem’s Wing state President Shameema Firdous, State Secratary Sakina Itoo, Provincial President Women’s Wing Er. Sabiya Qadri, Social Media Wing In-Charge Sarah Hayat Shah and Additional Spokesperson Ifra Jan said that the crime of this nature does not deserve any kind of clemency. “Words would fail to describe the situation of that the victim must have suffered emotionally as well as physically ; it cannot be compensated either by sentencing the accused or by grant of any degree of compensation,” they said.

Denouncing the attack, the women functionaries demanded capital punishment for the culprits. “Whatever has happened is very wrong. A soul, an identity and a face have been damaged. We condemn it unreservedly and demand capital punishment for the perpratrators behind the henious crime. Stringent laws of the land should be invoked against such beasts. We stand with the victim and her family,” they added.

Calling for the enactment of laws to curb such henious crimes against humanity, they said, “This attack is the second such incident in Kashmir in four months. On October 5 last year, an 18-year-old girl sustained burn injuries on the face in an acid attack in south Kashmir’s Shopian district. Justice delayed is justice denied. The law executing agencies have done their bit by nabbing the culprits, now it is for judiciary to take a lead by serving exemplary punishment to them.”

They also demanded full and free medical treatment to the victim.” The administration should ensure free and effective treatment, including reconstructive surgery, free medicines, rehabilitation and aftercare to the victim,” they stated.
