‘Notorious drug peddler detained under PSA’

Srinagar: Acting tough against social crimes, Police in Baramulla have arrested 14 gamblers and seized stake money from their possession. Besides, a notorious drug peddler was detained under PSA, said a police spokesperson.

“Acting on specific information, police parties from Police Station Kunzer and Police Station Pattan raided gambling sites at Takiya Batpora, Hardu Aboora, Hanjiwera Bala & Kripalpora Payeen following an input about gambling activities and apprehended 14 gamblers,” the spokesperson said.

“Officers have seized stake money of ₹36,440/- and playing cards from the gamblers. They have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody,” he said.

“Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and further investigation is in progress,” the spokesperson said.

“Moreover, a notorious drug peddler namely Muzamil Majeed Bhat @Hashim son of Abdul Majeed Bhat resident of Mohalla Mir Sahib Baramulla was detained under PSA for his active involvement in drug peddling activities in Baramulla Town. Several cases under NDPS Act stands already registered against him. He has been lodged at Central Jail Kot Bilwal Jammu under detention orders received from Divisional Commissioner Kashmir,” he added.

2 drug peddlers arrested in Kulgam: Police

Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested two drug peddlers in Kulgam and recovered contraband substances and illicit liquor from their possession, said a police spokesperson.

“On a specific input, a Police Party from Police Station Qazigund conducted a raid at specific location in village Check Badwani Qazigund. During checking, officers were able to recover 2Kgs of Poppy Straw and 45 bottles of illicit liquor from the residential house and arrested two persons identified as Nisar Ahmad Mir son of Gh Mohmad Mir resident of Telwani Anantnag AP Badwani Qazigund and Mohamad Yaseen Malik son of Gh Ahmad Malik resident of Chek Badwani Qazigund. They have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody,” the spokesperson said.

“Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 12/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Qazigund and investigation is in progress,” he said.
