Srinagar: A young businessman, Zuhaib Yousuf Mir today joined Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in presence of party president, Mehbooba Mufti who welcomed him into the party fold.

Zuhaid, who has done his degree in economics from London, hails from Athwajan area and is grandson of a prominent businessman of J&K, late Abdul Salam Mir.

While joining the party, Zuhaib said that it was after the abrogation of Article 370 that he decided to join politics believing that youth of Kashmir have to choose democratic polity to struggle and strive for their ‘snatched rights.’

“I was preparing for IAS Mains after clearing the prelims. On August 04, 2019, as part of my studies, I was studying Article 370 of the Indian constitution, its nature and safeguards,” Zuhaib said.

“Next day, the same Article was scrapped. It was a shock for me. I couldn’t reconcile with it and was so upset that my heart was no longer into qualifying the exam,” he said.

After sometime, he said, he came back to Kashmir and was disheartened to notice that for most of the political leaders, who were released from detention, the very mention of Article 370 was sort of taboo.

“And then there was one voice, unambiguous and unwavering, echoing the sentiments of lakhs of youths like me and that was of Mehbooba Mufi Ji,” said Zuhaib, adding, there and then he decided that if he has to contribute his bit in restoration of the dignity of Jammu and Kashmir, “here is a party and here is a leader.”

While welcoming Zhaib Yousuf Mir into the party fold, Mehbooba Mufti said that the joining of educated and ideologically sound youth like Zuhaib gives her hope that people of Jammu and Kashmir will not rest till they get back what has been snatched from them.
