Mahrajpora Bridge remains incomplete; locals suffer
Sopore: Residents of Mahrajpora & adjoining villages of Sopore are suffering due to the delay in completion of the vital bridge that connects Mahrajpora area of Sopore to the Sher-e-Colony.
The foundation stone of the bridge was laid by former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on December 02, 2013, which is 205 meters long built on 4 pillars with 9 piles, has to be built at an estimated cost of 16 crores.
Ajaz Ahmad Dar, a resident of Tarzoo said that the work on the bridge was started around a decade ago and since then only pillars have been half raised.
“Once the bridge is complete, it will connect many villages including Tarzoo, Panjipora, Hygam and people can travel directly to District Bandipora,” said Ajaz.
The bridge is being constructed by the Jammu and Kashmir Project Construction Corporation (JKPCC). “We proposed its tender eight times till now but there has been no response from the contractors. Now, we are trying to convince our Chief Engineer to divide this project into different tenders,” said Masood Ahmad, Deputy General Manager, JKPCC.
However, Sajad Ahmed, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Sopore said that due to the paucity of funds, the work has been stopped. He, however, assured that the work will resume soon.
