BWJA holds its Presidential Election

Gulzar Ahmed Zargar elected President

Baramulla: Baramulla Working Journalists Association (BWJA) under the banner of North Kashmir Journalist Association – an amalgam of journalists associations of north Kashmir districts – held its presidential elections on Wednesday at Dakbanglow Baramulla in which 31 journalists of Baramulla district participated and senior journalist Gulzar Ahmed Zargar – Special Correspondent Daily Headlines Today was elected as president of the BWJA.

After a daylong meeting and deliberations, the election process was conducted under the supervision of renowned journalists and Chairman NJKA and BWJA Haji Karamat Qayoom – Editor-in-Chief SNS Kashmir, Sherbeen – Radio Kashmir Srinagar, Anzhar Mahjoo of Mirror of Kashmir, Altaf Baba Greater Kashmir, Sajad Hussain Network 18 besides Rahi Nisar of Gulistan Tv from Pattan, Ishafaq Ahmad Dar of Tangmarg were also present.

The elections of BWJA couldn’t be held due to unavoidable circumstances and deadly pandemic from the last two years. Speakers on this occasion expressed gratitude to the participating journalists for making the presidential elections a grand success and resolved to strengthen the association besides fighting for freedom of press at all levels.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairman BWJA Haji Karamat Qayoom said that Journalism is a noble profession and every journalist should work honestly to make the fourth estate strong and uphold “its dignity”.

“We will issue identity cards to members of BWJA very soon, so that officials will recognize them easily during any function and event. Elections got delayed due to Covid-19 pandemic and unavoidable circumstances,” Karamat Qayoom said.

After being re-elected president, president BWJA Zargar Gulzar reiterated that he will work for the welfare of the journalists in Baramulla and other adjacent districts.

“Challenges of the media have increased and we will work together for the betterment of the organization. BWJA has extended support to professional and genuine working journalists from time to time,” he added.

“BWJA believes in ethics of journalism. We will always support professional journalists and there is no space for those indulging in blackmailing, extortion and yellow journalism,” he added.
