Seeks their release, withdrawal of charges

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Thursday took strong exception to the arrest of a mother-daughter duo by the J&K Police following an encounter in Rangreth area of Srinagar city.

While condemning the Police action against the women, party spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar said: “it is a new disturbing reality of Kashmir that our mothers and sisters are being apprehended for their knee-jerk emotional outpouring near such shootout sites.”

“Their family is making a passionate plea that the two women have a spotless background. The duo could have been talked and counseled by the Police. Therefore in the best interests of these women, the administration should withdraw cases against them and release them forthwith after due counseling,” he said.

“Such inexorability of use of force and severity of charges against women send across a wrong message and run contrary to the claims of GOI on extending hand of friendship to Kashmiris,” he added.
