Senior Physics Prof Naseer Iqbal wins INSA teacher Award

Awantipora: Senior Physics Professor of the valley, Prof. Naseer Iqbal has won this year’s Indian National Science Academy (INSA) teacher award, one of the top recognitions for science teachers and academics in the country.

Prof. Iqbal, who is a Professor of Physics in the University of Kashmir and currently on deputation to Islamic University of Science & Technology (IUST) as Registrar, has been chosen for the award in recognition of his contributions in motivating students coming from remote areas of J and K in joining the research programmes.

The award carries a scroll, citation, cash prize of Rs. 50,000 and a book grant of Rs. 20,000.

In its communication, INSA has recognized Prof. Iqbal’s achievements in widening the career horizons of students from J&K by arranging regular visits to The Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA Pune) and other distinguished academic institutes in the country.

“This also involved counselling the students and sometimes their families. Professor Iqbal has set an example by teaching a variety of courses and actively pursuing research. Many of his students are faculty members in various reputed academic institutions in the country. The award is a recognition for an impact in a region full of challenges,” the INSA statement reads.

The award has been lauded by Vice Chancellor IUST, teaching and non-teaching staff members and students of IUST and members from the civil society.
