Indian Army celebrates Jashn-e-Baramulla

Srinagar: The Indian Army in association with Indrani Balan Group organised a mega cultural event, Jashn-e-Baramulla at Ecological Park on the banks of river Jhelum in Baramula.

“The musical fest was aimed at celebrating the rich musical heritage of Baramulla and to promote local Kashmiri talent,” said a spokesperson of the Indian Army.

“The event kick-started with local singers taking the stage and mesmerizing the audience with their enthralling performances. Kashmiri sensation Waqar Khan’s rendition of Kashmiri and Sufi songs kept the audience enchanted,” the spokesperson said.

“Javed Ali, Bollywood singer, was the show stopper at the event. He belted numerous bollywood songs, much to the delight of the audience. Pandit Rakesh Prasad Chaurasiya on flute, Padam Shri Vijay Ghate on tabla and local artist Nazir Ganai on rabab hypnotized the audience with their jugalbandi,” he said.

The spokesperson further said: “Lt Gen DP Pandey, GOC Chinar Corps, in a message said that the aim of Jashn-e-Baramulla was to celebrate the rich musical heritage of Kashmir valley and create an enabling environment for the local musicians to reach wider audience through their songs. The GOC further said that the Citizen-Army connect is based on trust and mutual respect and they would jointly strive for a happy and progressive Kashmir.”

“Kashmir is synonymous with heaven on Earth. Local music and talent in Kashmir is not only refreshing but extraordinary. We have associated with the musicians and singers of Kashmir in the past and would continue to support them in future,” the spokesperson quoted Puneet Balan of Indrani Balan Foundation as saying.
