GWC Parade Students sensitized about entrepreneurship development in Agriculture

JAMMU: A group of 26 students of Government College for Women Parade Ground, Jammu including NCC & NSS cadets led by LT. Suman Lata, NCC AMO ,Prof  Menakshi Jamwal, Convener Training & Placement Cell and  Dr. Gurpreet Kour, NSS, PO visited Krishi Bhawan complex Talab Tillo, Jammu, here today.

This visit was organized under the initiative and guidance of Director Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Jammu, K. K. Sharma with the objective of creating awareness among youth regarding different activities being undertaken by the Department of Agriculture for the welfare of the farming community and entrepreneurship deployment in agriculture.

Joint Director Agriculture (Marketing),  A.S. Reen,  encouraged the youth to come forward to learn and adopt Scientific Agricultural Skills for efficient use of resources and adopt farming as income generating venture.  More opportunities for employment generation are being created through expansion of   protected vegetable cultivation, apiculture and mushroom growing on scientific lines, he said.

Detailed deliberations were made by the experts of the department on different topics including mushroom growing, protected cultivation of vegetables, apiculture, plant protection, role of women in agriculture, self help groups formation, vermi-composting and kitchen/roof top gardening. The group was also shown the Naturally Ventilated Poly Green House, Automatic Pasteurized Mushroom Compost Making Plant, Vermi-compost structures, Plant Health Clinic (PHC), Pesticide Testing Lab, Soil Testing Lab and Quality Control Labs.

A Question & Answer session was also held on the occasion in which queries raised by students regarding adopting the Agriculture as business were answered by the experts satisfactorily.

Those who participated and interacted on the occasion included S .Iqbal Singh, Joint Director (Apiculture & Mushroom); J. C. Raina, Agronomist (Vegetables); Rajeev Verma, Agri Chemist; Kuldeep Sharma, MDO;  Neeraj Razwal, Assistant Soil Chemist;   Dolly John, Assistant Biochemist;  Sanjay Anand, Assistant Entomologist;  Arun Khajuria, Incharge Plant Health Clinic, besides other experts of the department.
