GOC Fire and Fury Corps flags off Mountaineering Expedition
Srinagar: Lieutenant General PGK Menon, General Officer Commanding, Fire and Fury Corps flagged off a Mountaineering Expedition to Five Unclimbed Peaks North of Central Rimo Glacier today, said PRO (Defence) Srinagar.
“The mountaineering team of Zedang Sumpa Battalion will aim to ascend ‘Five’ 6000 meter peaks in an uncharted region. The expedition team comprising of thirty seasoned mountaineers, will negotiate challenging Glaciers and arduous climb to unfurl the National Flag on these heights,” the PRO said.
“The expedition will be a maiden attempt to summit the Peaks and also will be the first expedition by a single unit to attempt Five Peaks simultaneously. The expedition will not only foster the spirit of adventure among the troops but also go a long way in motivating the troops in pursuing mountaineering as an adventure sport,” he said.
