DGP sanctions Rs 2.8 crore special welfare relief, ex-gratia

Srinagar: Continuing with its endeavour to provide financial assistance to the families/NoKs of the deceased police personnel/SPOs, the Director General of Police, Dilbag Singh, has sanctioned rupees 1.70 crore Special Welfare Relief in favour 10 police personnel/SPOs and rupees 38 lakh ex-gratia relief in favour of dependents/legal heirs of a martyred Police official, said a police spokesperson.

“DGP has sanctioned Rupees 38 lakh ex-gratia relief in favour of NoKs of SgCt Mohammad Yousf Bajad who attained martyrdom in a terrorist attack at Bhagat Chowk Srinagar,” the spokesperson said.

“The special welfare relief of rupees 20 lakh each has been sanctioned in favour of dependents/legal heirs of deceased police personnel SI Barfu Ram, L/ASI Hanefa Begum, HC Swaran Singh, L/SgCt. Babita Manhas, Devinder Kumar, Deepak Sharma, follower Rapinderjeet Singh who expired during service due to health-related issues and Ct. Nisar Ahmad who attained martyrdom in a terrorist attack at Kulgam,” he said.

The spokesperson further said: “Besides special relief of Rupees 5 lakh each has also been sanctioned in favour of NoKs of deceased SPOs Jagar Nath and Farooq Ahmad Ganie who expired due to illness during the course of their engagement with the department.”

“Out of this amount (special welfare relief) rupees one lakh each has already been paid to the families/NoKs for performing the last rites as immediate relief by the PHQ through their concerned units/Districts. The financial assistance has been given out of the Contributory Police Welfare Fund,” he said.

“Police Headquarters is running many schemes for the welfare of its personnel and their families. There are also schemes for the wards of Police personnel and SPOs. Besides, there are schemes for the NoKs of martyrs, their wards and also for the retired Police personnel and their spouses,” he added.
