Dr Shahid interacts with civil service aspirants at KU’s CCPC
Srinagar: Kashmir University’s prestigious Centre for Career Planning and Counselling (CCPC) on Saturday organised an online talk for its civil service aspirants as part of the varsity’s series of programmes related to ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’ celebrations.
Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Commissioner-Secretary, Tribal Affairs and Mission Director, Skill Development and Mission Youth, J&K delivered the online talk on “Preparing smartly and gaining momentum to achieve success in civil service examinations”.
KU Vice-Chancellor Prof Talat Ahmad chaired the lecture session as Chief Guest while Prof Shakil A Romshoo, Dean of Research was the Guest of Honour and Dr Ashfaq Ahmad Zarri, Joint Registrar, was a Special Guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Talat urged the civil service aspirants to pursue their goals and ambitions with hard-work, grit and determination. He urged them to stay away from all sorts of negativity and deviations, be focussed, study smartly in a well-organised manner, participate in group discussions and practice-sessions, keep revising and manage their time well.
The Vice-Chancellor pledged to make serious efforts towards enhancing the hostel accommodation and other facilities for CCPC students.
In his special address, Prof Romshoo advised the aspirants to take coaching as supplementary and complementary to their routine preparation for the civil services examination and not as a substitute. He also urged upon the participants to connect well with their peers and contemporaries besides other institutions for effective preparation and learning.
In his lead lecture, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary gave several useful tips to the aspirants for cracking the IAS. He discussed various time-tested methods that prove useful in gaining success in the civil services examination and on the basis of his personal experiences shared his valuable opinions about selection of optional subjects, improving writing and communication skills, fostering personality development, structuring their answers well, gaining sufficient knowledge about facts and current affairs and acquiring requisite skills like good decision-making, articulation, clarity of thought, critical analysis and discussions on important matters.
Dr Choudhary also deliberated upon the modalities of group study, formal coaching, mock test series, practice sessions and avoiding common myths and misconceptions in their run up to the civil services examination. He urged upon the aspirants to be lively, self-motivated, enterprising and confident while facing personality tests.
His lecture was followed by a question-answer session during which several questions raised by the aspirants were answered by the guest speaker.
Dr Ashfaq Ahmad Zarri, in his address, discussed several important issues concerning enhancement of employability, counselling and placement of students and congratulated Director CCPC, Prof Geer Mohammad Ishaq for rejuvenating the Centre with renewed energy, vision and vigour.
Prof Geer conducted the proceedings of the session and pledged to pursue the suggestions made by the dignitaries for promotion and projection of CCPC as a centre of excellence in the University.
Hina Kazmi, Consultant CCPC moderated the question-answer session and also proposed a vote of thanks.
