Strive towards leveraging milk production, productivity: Mittal directs Officers
Reviews functioning of Animal Husbandry, allied sectors at Baramulla
Srinagar: Director Animal Husbandry Department Kashmir, Purnima Mittal, today visited Baramulla district to take stock of various activities pertaining to Animal husbandry and its allied sectors.
While chairing a meeting at dak bungalow here, the Director also took a detailed appraisal of the implementation of various schemes and programmes being sponsored by the department.
On the occasion, Chief Animal husbandry Officer Baramulla Dr. Balbir Singh briefed the chair about the status and position of various related aspects wherein he informed that, as per the latest livestock census, the cattle population in the district is 1.60 lakh among which about 1.58 lakh have been tagged with UID numbers.
He also informed about the milk production and productivity that has been recorded in the district adding that the rate has been significantly enhanced due to the intervention of latest techniques and modern know-hows.
Meanwhile, the CAHO also informed the chair that 27 cases have been approved under the centrally sponsored Integrated Dairy Development Scheme (IDDS) and said that various initiatives are being taken to cover more and more beneficiaries under such welfare schemes.
After taking a comprehensive review, the Director complimented the concerned functionaries for achieving better results in animal husbandry and its allied sectors. She emphasized upon the officers to strive for enhancing the milk production so that the district becomes surplus in milk production. She also directed to conduct field visits and educate the farmers about the latest and scientific methods for leveraging the production and productivity.
Urging upon the youth to come forward and avail the benefits of various schemes, the Director said that department has undertaken various measures that are aimed at providing different livelihood opportunities.
She added that financial and other support is being provided to our young entrepreneurs for establishing dairy units as a means of sustainable livelihood.
The Director during the visit was accompanied by various concerned officers.
