Srinagar: Market-places in Srinagar and towns witnessed huge rush of people on Monday to shop for Eid-ul-Azha which is being celebrated on July 21.

While the shops selling eatables, particularly the bakeries witnessed huge rush of customers, the outlets dealing in clothing and footwear saw a moderate flow of buyers.

“Even though we can see rush all around, not many are buying this time,” a shopkeeper said.

The roadside vendors had also set up stalls in the city, but were not satisfied with the sales as per their expectations.

“This year, the demand for sacrificial animals is nowhere near to what used to be the case previously,” many people selling sheep and goat said.

Meanwhile, Kashmir Retailers Association (KRA) has hailed Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for giving “relaxation” for Eid shopping in the Valley amid Covid restrictions.

In a statement, KRA president Farhan Kitab said, “the retail sector has been trying hard to cope with the slings and arrows of the Covid-19 pandemic, which caused irreparable damage to business.” (With inputs from KNO)
