LG approves proposal to recruit 800 sub-inspectors
Unveils Yoga videos in Dogri, Kashmiri languages
Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday approved a proposal to recruit 800 sub-inspectors in the Jammu and Kashmir Police, giving a fresh impetus to the recruitment process which had slowed down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The selection process will be based on written and physical tests, and a committee will be formed by the Services Selection Board (SSB) in consultation with the government for physical endurance tests, an official spokesperson said here.
“In a historic reform aimed at ensuring more transparency and fairness in the overall recruitment process, the LG also approved the selection process of all non-gazetted level posts in the three departments of Police, Prisons and Fire and Emergency Services through the SSB,” he said.
The number of people to be called for physical fitness tests will be based on the pattern adopted by some of the states and union territories, the official said.
The entire process of fitness tests shall be duly video-graphed for the purpose of transparency, he added.
To address the long-standing issues of seniority hampering the career progression of police officials at different levels, now a common seniority of sub-inspectors recruited against the Direct Recruitment vacancies in the Armed and the Executive Wing will be maintained, the spokesperson said.
The announcement comes two days after the LG said that the UT administration was moving ahead to expedite the process for recruitment of 25,000 jobs promised in the public sector and government departments to empower the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
Outlining that the youth of J&K have a key role to play in the overall development of the region, the LG asserted that the UT government was planning to reach out to 50,000 young people with financial assistance under the next leg of the ‘Back to Village’ program.
He noted that, as on date, the Jammu and Kashmir Bank has advanced more than Rs 340 crores to as many as 19,600 young people from across the UT, “empowering them financially to pursue their dreams and to create livelihood opportunities for others as well”.
Meanwhile, the Lieutenant Governor today unveiled Yoga videos in Dogri and Kashmiri languages based on common yoga protocol issued by the Union Ministry of AYUSH, an official spokesman said.
He said the videos will be telecast on TV channels and social media platforms.
Speaking on the occasion, Sinha said practicing yoga keeps one healthy and happy.
The LG said that due to the noble initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) had taken a “historic decision” in 2014 to declare June 21 as the International Day of Yoga (IDY).
“There is worldwide acceptance of Yoga now and it is a matter of pride for our country as Yoga is an integral part of our cultural heritage,” he said.
Sinha emphasised that every citizen should do Yoga everyday to lead a healthy, stress-free life and boost immunity, particularly during the COVID-19 times.
“Yoga is the traditional science of mindfulness, consciousness and awareness. Health, wellness and global peace cannot be imagined without an aware and empathetic mind as enshrined in the Yogic principles of Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana and Samadhi- Asthanga Yoga,” the LG said.
He appealed to all to avail benefits of Yoga videos being telecast on TV channels and social and digital media links of Directorate of Indian Systems of Medicine (AYUSH) under the aegis the Health and Medical Education Department.
It was also informed that, Health & Medical Education Department, J&K (Directorate of ISM, J&K) is celebrating Yoga Week from 14th June 2021 by organizing online sessions on common Yoga protocol and educative programs on Yoga which are being telecast on various TV channels and are also available on various social/digital media platforms viz. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram etc.
Yoga Week is being celebrated in collaboration with School Education, Higher Education, Youth Services & Sports and Skill Development departments which are organizing online competitions at district levels and winners will be awarded with prizes, an official press released informed.
