WGAJK felicitates Everest climbers of JIM&WS at Srinagar
Srinagar: The Winter Games Association of J&K (WGAJK) Thursday held an interaction with three Mountaineers, Mehfooz AIlahi, Mohammad Iqbal Khan and Chander Singh Negi and their Expedition leader Col. Ishwar Singh Thapa of Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports Pahalgam, who recently climbed the world’s highest Mt. Everest Peak.
The Secretary J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul, was Chief Guest on the occasion.
Among others DSOK Nuzhat Farooq, President WGAJK Abbas Wani, Gen. Secretary WGAJK Muhammad Yusuf, Sr Vice President A.R Dar, International skier Hafiza Akhtar, President Adventure Tour Operators Association of Kashmir Rauf Tramboo, Gul Mustafa Dev Olympian, Shabir Wani International Skier, International Skier Arif Khan, Chief Accounts Officer JIK&WS and some other important officials of JIM&WS, WGAJK and Sports Council were present on the occasion.
In his inaugural speech, Abbas Wani congratulated Col. I.S Thapa and Principal JIM&WS for the successful expedition of 6 climbers of JIM&WS and Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Uttrakhand and six other Sherpas.
Chief Guest Nuzhat Gul, Secretary Sports Council expressed her pleasure and pride for the successful climb by three climbers of JIM&WS, Pahalgam. Gul said that the feat would certainly encourage the youth to take up adventure sports. She congratulated the team and their leader for their achievement.
The Expedition Leader and Principal JIM&WS expressed his gratitude to WGAJK for hosting the felicitation function. He said that JIM&WS has been supporting the Association in promoting winter sports in south Kashmir and will continue to render its assistance.
“Though we have some instructors who have already climbed Everest but with the climb of two local youth, the Institute received more applauds from the society. Climbing Everest in extremely bad weather was a difficult task but we accomplished it without fear,” he added.
