J&K records 997 positive cases, lowest in two months

16 deaths, 2,73,853 recoveries reported

Srinagar, Jun 07: Jammu and Kashmir on Monday recorded less than 1,000 fresh COVID-19 cases for the first time in two months.

The Union territory registered 997 fresh cases, taking the total number of infected people to 3,01,487, while 16 deaths took the death toll to 4,090, officials said.

This was for the first time since April 12 that Jammu and Kashmir recorded less than 1,000 fresh daily cases.

Out of the fresh cases, 689 were reported from the Kashmir Valley and 288 from the Jammu division of the Union territory, officials said.

They said Srinagar district recorded the highest of 161 cases, followed by 107 in Kupwara district.

In the past 24 hours, 16 persons died of COVID-19 – nine in Kashmir Valley and seven in Jammu division, officials said.

They said during this period, 4178 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and have been discharged from various hospitals; this includes 3000 from Kashmir and 1178 from Jammu division.

Meanwhile, 16 confirmed cases of mucormycosis (black fungus) have been reported in J&K and one case was reported Sunday evening, officials said.

According to the daily media bulletin on novel coronavirus (COVID-19), out of 3,01,467 positive cases recorded cumulatively thus far, currently there are 23,524 active positive cases across J&K, while cumulatively 2,73,853 have recovered and 4,090 have died — 2102 in Kashmir and 1988 in Jammu division.

The bulletin further said that out of 88,87,902 test results available, 85,86,435 samples have tested as negative till June 07, 2021.

Till date 21,68,272 persons have been enlisted for observation which included 80,348 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by the government, 23,524 in isolation and 1,46,180 in home surveillance while 19,14,130 persons have completed their surveillance period, the bulletin informed.

It told the people that the best way to protect themselves from COVID-19 is by maintaining physical distance of at least 2 meters from others, frequently cleaning hands with an alcohol based hand sanitizer or washing them with soap and water and following good respiratory etiquette and hygiene.

As a measure for social distancing in public places and workplaces wearing a face cover is compulsory.

The bulletin again explained that early detection of COVID-19 can prevent the spread of disease; so people need to be responsible for their own well-being of and everyone around.

“Not disclosing symptoms could put life of individuals and their families at risk. In case of symptoms like fever, cough and difficulty in breathing report early. Do not fear, call COVID-19 helpline numbers and seek medical advice,” the bulletin advised.

It further exhorted upon the people not to step out of home, unless absolutely necessary.

“If you have to move out for unavoidable reasons, ensure that you wear a mask and practice social distancing, personal hygiene and frequent hand washing with soap and water.”
