Srinagar: Apni Party Provincial President Kashmir Mohammad Ashraf Mir on Wednesday urged the administration to ramp up the inoculation drive in Kashmir division, especially for the age group above 45 who have been kept on protracted wait for the second dosage.

In a statement issued here, Mir said that the beneficiaries who had been earlier given the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine have now been pushed from pillar to post to get their second shots.

“The PHC’s and Hospitals are turning away such vaccine recipients who somehow feel incomplete without the second jab. It’s an appalling scenario where even the online booking for Covid-19 vaccine, that was previously available on CoWIN digital portal, has also been stalled. This has prompted a prodigious chaos among the people,” he deliberated.

Mir said that in accordance with the official claims, the UT government has enough available stocks of vaccine jabs that need to be administered at once in order to save the lives of people and use this time judiciously to help bring back normalcy.

“The immediate resumption of vaccination drives in J&K remains mandatory for taking people out of this tumultuous situation, otherwise intermittent lockdowns will soon ruin our economies utterly. The fresh vaccination drive should aim at those age groups who have already received their first jabs and have been also intimated via SMS alerts for the second dose. The inoculation program should then be extended out to every single individual in J&K in order to attain the much-needed herd immunity,” he said.

He said that the economic strains have entirely distressed the lives of people across J&K and even the family members are collectively experiencing an unceasing mental trauma due to it.

“The revamping of the inoculation process in JK can solely save our economy from an impending doom. The government needs to initiate a comprehensive inoculation program that will help to achieve a sustainable development where there exists no further room for lockdowns. I, therefore, urge the administration to take prompt requisite steps in pursuit of this imperative objective, so that people are liberated from the shackles of this ominous contagion,” he asserted.
