NC to form committee to decide whether or not to participate in delimitation process
Srinagar: With National Conference (NC) MPs having stayed away from the delimitation exercise and boycotted the Delimitation Commission meetings thus far, the party now says it will constitute a committee to decide about joining the exercise.
Local news agency KNS quoted the NC Member Parliament, Justice (retd.) Hasnain Masoodi as saying that the party’s Central Working Committee met on Thursday through virtual mode to discuss the option of joining the delimitation process.
“Every leader gave his opinion, some spoke in favour of joining it and some others were averse to becoming the part of Delimitation Commission. Then it was unanimously decided that Dr Farooq Abdullah will frame a committee to decide whether or not to participate in the exercise,” he said.
Earlier NC was opposed to becoming part of the delimitation exercise which is mandated to redraw Parliamentary and Assembly constituencies in J&K. NC MPs have thus far stayed away from the meeting of the Delimitation Commission.
It is pertinent to recalls that previously Masoodi had said that “the whole exercise of Delimitation Commission is illegal” as the revocation of Article 370 and bifurcation of J&K State into two Union Territories is “illegal and unconstitutional”.
Last year in March, Centre had constituted the Delimitation Commission to redraw Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies of J&K. Later, term of the Commission was extended in March this year.
