COVID: 62 deaths, 3,969 fresh cases in J&K

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday recorded 3,969 fresh COVID cases, taking the infection count to 2,55,888, while 62 deaths in the past 24 hours pushed the toll to 3,355 in the Union Territory, officials said.

Out of the fresh cases, 2,594 are from the Kashmir division while 1,375 were from the Jammu division, they said.

The officials said Srinagar district recorded the highest of 675 cases, followed by 493 in Jammu district and 411 in Budgam district.

There are 50,494 active cases in the Union Territory, while 2,02,039 patients have recovered so far, the officials said.

The death toll due to the disease rose to 3,355 as 62 patients died in the past 24 hours. Of the 62 fresh fatalities, 39 were reported in Jammu division while 23 were reported in Kashmir taking the overall tally in J&K to 3,355.

Cumulatively as of today, 1,784 persons have succumbed to the pandemic in Kashmir and 1,571 in Jammu.

There are currently 50,494 active cases in J&K — 29,522 in Kashmir and 20,972 in Jammu.

Officials also informed that 4338 COVID-19 patients have recovered and have been discharged from various hospitals — including 1385 from Jammu division and 2953 in Kashmir Valley – during the past 24 hours.

According to the daily media bulletin on Covid-19, out of 2,55,888 positive cases detected cumulatively thus far, 50,494 are currently active positive, 2,02,039 have recovered and 3355 have died.

The bulletin further said that out of 80,45,445 test results available, 77,89,557 samples have tested as negative till May 19, 2021.

Till date 19,92,257 persons have been enlisted for observation which included 75,782 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 50,494 in isolation and 1,27,783 in home surveillance. Besides, 17,34,843 persons have completed their surveillance period, the bulkletin informed.
