73 Covid related deaths; 3,344 fresh infections reported in UT

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir recorded 73 COVID-19 deaths – the biggest single-day spike — which took the toll to 3,222, while 3,344 fresh infections pushed the tally to 2,47,952 on Monday, officials said.

Out of the fresh cases, 1,926 were from the Kashmir Valley and 1,418 from Jammu division of the union territory, they said.

The officials said Jammu district recorded the highest 613 cases, followed by 495 in Srinagar district and 376 in Budgam district.

The number of active cases has dropped to 50,852 in the union territory, while 1,89,836 patients have recovered so far, they said.

The union territory recorded its biggest single day spike as 73 COVID patients died in the past 24 hours — 54 from Jammu division and 19 from Kashmir Valley, the officials said.

With these deaths, the death toll in the union territory due to the pandemic rose to 3,222.

They said 4042 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and have been discharged from various hospitals during past 24 hours — including 2960 from Kashmir and 1082 from Jammu division.

According to the daily media bulletin on novel Covid-19, out of 2,47,952 positive cases cumulatively detected thus far, 50,852 are currently active positive, 1,93,878 have recovered and 3,222 have died — 1729 in Kashmir and 1493 in Jammu division.

The bulletin further said that out of 79,55,865 test results available, 77,07,913 samples have been tested as negative till May 17, 2021.

It said till date 19,74,299 persons have been enlisted for observation which included 75,986 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 50,852 in isolation and 1,21,015 in home surveillance. Besides, 17,23,224 persons have completed their surveillance period, the bulletin informed.
