Despite lockdown, Srinagar witnesses’ brisk vehicular movement, traffic snarls at vital junctions
81 arrested, 46 FIRs registered for violating lockdown norms: Police
Srinagar: Amid ongoing “Corona curfew” across Jammu and Kashmir, the roads here in Srinagar and other adjacent areas on Monday witnessed brisk vehicular movement coupled with traffic snarls at various vital junctions giving an impression as if there were some “relaxations in the curfew”.
The “Corona curfew” continued across Jammu and Kashmir since Thursday evening. The government has announced lockdown across J&K till Thursday (May 06) in an order to prevent the virus from spreading.
However, brisk private vehicular movement was recorded in several areas of Srinagar and other adjacent districts today.
Vehicles were in large number seen plying normally in Hyderpora, Sonawar, Jahangir Chowk, Dalgate and other areas, which gave an impression that the lockdown restrictions have been eased today.
Though police and paramilitary troops were deployed in large number to enforce the lockdown restrictions, the barricades and concertina wires also remain erected at many places and bridges to thwart the public movement, but despite all these measures roads and streets witnessed heavy traffic movement.
Meanwhile, police said that 629 violators were fined while 46 FIRs registered and 81 persons were arrested today across Kashmir.
“During last 24 hours, police has arrested 81 persons, lodged 46 FIRs and also realized fine to the tune of Rs 93,620 from 629 people for violating the guidelines, rules throughout Kashmir,” a police spokesman said in a statement here.
Police spokesman said that three vehicles were also seized in Budgam for violating guidelines and restrictions.
