J&K reports 21 deaths, 2381 fresh Covid cases
Srinagar district tops with 848, followed by Jammu with 449 cases; Kishtwar registers only 5 fresh cases
Srinagar: Twenty nine people, infected by coronavirus, died in past 24 hours in Jammu and Kashmir while as the Union Territory registered 2381 fresh Covid-19 positive cases on Sunday.
Officials said that 1533 people tested positive in Kashmir and 848 in Jammu division. Srinagar district topped the tally with 748 and Jammu at number two with 449 fresh cases while as Kishtwar district registered only 05 fresh cases. With this total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 160755.
Eleven people died of the infection in Jammu and 10 in Kashmir division, said the officials. With these fresh deaths the toll has reached 2147 – 1333 in Kashmir and 814 in Jammu division.
The officials said that out of 160755 positive cases, 19558 are Active Positive and 139050 so far.
Srinagar district recorded 748 fresh cases; Baramulla, 200; Budgam 137; Pulwama 72; Kupwara 114; Anantnag 108; Bandipora 24; Ganderbal 35; Kulgam 78 and; Shopian 17 cases.
In Jammu division, Jammu district registered 449; Udhampur 57; Rajouri 98; Doda 14; Kathua 50; Kishtwar 05; Samba 39; Poonch 37; Ramban 50 and; Reasi 49 cases on Sunday.
The officials said that among the total 160755 positive cases in J&K, 18480 have been reported as travelers while 142275 as others.
Five Srinagar areas declared containment zones
The district administration of Srinagar on Sunday evening declared five more areas as Containment Zones after nearly 50 positive COVID-19 cases were detected from these areas in the last three days.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Muhammad Aijaz Asad in a tweet informed that Rainawari, Dalgate, Buchpora, Soura and Lal Bazaar areas in Srinagar have been declared as Containment Zones.
He added that nearly 50 positive cases were reported from these areas during mass sampling over the past three days.
“Five new Containment Zones come up in Srinagar. Rainawari, Dalgate, Buchpora, Soura, Lal Bazaar. Positive cases between 40-50 reported from these areas during mass sampling over past 3 days. Stay indoors. Let’s #BreakTheChain,” DC Srinagar tweeted.
Paid public parks closed across J&K
Amid a spike in the Covid-19 cases across Jammu and Kashmir, the authorities on Sunday ordered the closure of public parks for visitors across the Union Territory.
The Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) J&K, on its official Twitter handle said that all paid public parks in Jammu and Kashmir have been closed till further orders.
“Due to the prevailing COVID situation in J&K, State Executive Committee, in the exercise of the powers conferred upon it under section 24 of Disaster Management Act,2005, hereby orders that all paid public parks in the UT of J&K shall remain closed for visitors till further orders,” DIPR Tweeted.
Night curfew duration increased by 2 hours
Amid a surge in Covid-19 cases, the government on Sunday increased the duration of night curfew in Jammu and Kashmir by two hours.
“The State Executive Committee, in the exercise of the powers conferred upon it under sec.24 of the Disaster Management Act,2005, hereby orders that night curfew timings within municipal/Urban local body limits of all districts of J&K shall be from 8 pm to 6 am instead of 10 pm to 6 am,” the government said.
On April 8, the administration had ordered imposition of night curfew from 10 pm to 6 am in the urban areas of eight districts which was later extended to municipal and urban local body limits of all the 20 districts in the UT on April 20.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration had imposed a 34-hour curfew from 8 pm on Saturday till 6 am on Monday.
