Peak power demand touches all-time high of 1631 MW: MD KPDCL
Appeals consumers for judicial use of energy during Sehri, Iftar
Srinagar: Managing Director, Kashmir Power Distribution Limited (KPDCL), Basharat Qayoom Saturday appealed consumers to make judicious use of electricity as the peak power demand in Kashmir has touched an all-time high of 1631 megawatts during Ramazan.
MD KPDCL said the non-judicious use of energy was the only reason behind record surge in load in the month of April. He said there would be significant improvement in energy supply if consumers stop using heating gadgets during ‘Sehri’ and ‘Iftar’ times.
“Compared to 1580 megawatts in winter months, peak power demand touched all-time high of 1631 megawatts during Sehri over the past four days in Kashmir. The only reason behind steep increase in load is the non-judicious use of energy by consumers,” Qayoom told reporters here.
MD KPDCL also said that electricity supply will improve in Kashmir Valley once there is improvement in the weather.
He said the winter curtailment schedule stands revised in Srinagar while curtailment was reduced in 50 percent areas of north and south Kashmir.
“Except 10 feeders, we try to provide maximum supply in Srinagar, curtailment schedule in 50 percent areas of north and south was also revised. Streamlining is not possible until people do not stop using electric gadgets,” he added.
He said the government was mulling to supply energy from maximum feeders with the improvement in weather, however the bad weather conditions have added to already high peak power demand.
